Saddleback's (Rick Warren's) Attempt to Repeat Pentecost

Please someone tell me that this is (click here) somewhat risky, if not wrong. Or, please shed some light on why this might be a good thing. I would love to hear from any of you on this.

You know, the main thing that stands out to me in all that is how many times he used "I". Kinda left Jesus out of it. Don't miss out because I will be there. I was baptized when I was 10 and I know Jesus was there, he didn't say, no you can't be baptized til you're 30! Seems to me like he is more interested in the numbers. Btw, I am SIL to Kaye Butler.

I am little confused how bringing someone to Christ and giving a basic introductory class (which most churches offer) with water baptism is wrong. It's seems a bit presumptous to assume he is in it for himself...

I ran across this church and it's school website once looking for Christian blogs. The farther I read the more I got "we are all about the numbers". Numbers will not save you. Numbers might look good superficially, but what's inside? I agree with what my sister-in-law said. It is all about Pastor Rick. I feel like he is promising if you sign up you will be saved. How can he, just a man, make promises of salvation if you sign up and take his class?

Its almost like an infomercial to me.

Excellent post.

wow, this makes me sad. offering a magazine subscription in exchange for a salvation prayer!???? I am shocked.

I am somewhat concerned at the 8 reasons not to procrastinate (other than #8) The invite to "join the family" was much more inviting than the free give aways, which is trying to draw a crowd for the wrong reasons. Also I agree with Kaye, sounds to desperate wanting to match or surpass the numbers.

At first I thought yeah I get to sign up for something free but when I read it I realize that this church is trying to get as many people as they can to get saved and BAPTIZED all in ONE day.

You can't just take a class and get saved only JESUS can do that!!
That is just crazy right there as it is!!

Of course the "WHY" or the motivation is the real deciding factor in Rick's actions. From reading his handout, this certainly won't be another "Day of Pentecost". There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a "Big Vision" of what we desire to see God do...nor in having a "Big Vision" of what God CAN DO. However, the Day of Pentecost wasn't planned out, saved up, publicized with some really "awfully sounding gimicky commercial" offerings...but rather was Driven by the HOLY SPIRIT!!! Hard to see the Holy Spirit at work in at least the documentation as he presents it. Based on some of the latest things we have seen from Rick we need to pray that he will use the great platform that God has given him to follow God's leadership and expand GOD's Kingdom and Glory! Tim Mc.

Too strange. Jesus offers free eternal life, not free magazine subscriptions. Hopefully, the people who sign(ed) up truly believed in Him - first.
